One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others.

Recently, I was flipping through the pages of a "Knitwear For Infants" booklet and noticed something rather peculiar. While most of the children are certainly cute (though some are a bit large for babies, what were they feeding them back in the 60s?) there was one particular child that stood out from the others.

Let's take a look, shall we?

Um.

Er.

Uh......exactly what is going on here?

Is it a.....

Victim of its own mother's overzealous crocheting habits?

Hideously disfigured Elephant Man baby?

Misfortunate child of extremist Ku Klux Klan members?

Hmmm. It is quite a conundrum, isn't it? Still, one can't help but admire the handiwork that went into the detailed lacy edging. Nice, very nice.....

Oh. Until I scrolled to the bottom I thought Baby #1 was the "off" one.

And I vote, "Ku Klux Klan Kids"

You know how you have those knitted tea cozies? It's a crocheted baby cozy.

That or it was a Jedi's original baby bunting, and they took the picture from the back.

Nicole Kidman: "Where's my daughter? What have you done with my daughter?"

Creepy old psychic lady in knitwear: "Are you mad? I am your daughter."

Eek!

its the baby version of the emperor in star wars with his back turned. once the baby turns around we'll see a wrinkled old midget.

At first I thought it was the 2nd one - what is up with her foot??

And how about the baby Munchkin, already sporting the distinctive 3 curls of its adult plumage, reaching down to strangle the little rubber....what IS that?

Posted by: Marcia | Jul 21, 2005 4:49:36 PM

I think the munchkin is reaching for one of the Wicked Witch's flying monkey's!

Check this out people. The ultimate nightmare crochet pattern:

Imagine it in Perdue yellow.

Actually, I thought the fourth baby (The smirky one sitting next to what looks like a plastic bell pepper) was the "off" one. Kinda like he's precocious in his understanding and interests, and he just saw some girly out of camera range take off her knickers or something.

Maybe the last baby is the child of a germophobe/dirtphobe mom, and she made a dust cover for him to protect him from the big bad outside world?

I will say, I have seen a few babies who would be improved by a crocheted dust-cover.

It's a baby pic of Cousin It at his christening!

Cousin Itt at his christening. Bullseye!!

HA...I thought that baby number one was the off one, too. Scary. I also think that baby number four is filling his diaper! Look at that face!

It's a baby cozy!

What? You don't have one?

Posted by: Erratic Prophet | Jul 22, 2005 11:12:51 AM

Ummm...Michael Jackson's kid? The one they call "blanket?"

Posted by: Bliss | Jul 22, 2005 10:40:41 PM

Bliss definitely hit the nail on the head. Alas, it really, truly is Blanket.

Thanks to this post, my monitor's anti-glare screen has proved its worth as an anti-spit screen too. This is what happens when a guffaw totally sneaks up on you when your mouth's full of water. Cute, cute, cute, cu - choke, snort, gasp...

And fillyjonk? You're absolutely right! There are definitely babies out there who'd be improved with one of those gizmos. If I started using them, though, I'd likely lose business. Pity, really.

Baby 4 looks like Bill Engvall off Blue Collar TV.

Posted by: guest | Jul 26, 2005 11:04:44 AM

Actually, I think Baby 1 looks a LOT like Uncle Fester...maybe this is the Addams family baby album..

Posted by: Yorkie | Jul 28, 2005 4:24:07 PM

I think Baby #1 is Larry the Cable Guy. Get 'er done!! (I love Blue Collar TV.)

Y'all!

This is a crocheted version of the Sorting Hat from Hogwarts School!

Creep me out!

I thought the kid picking up the rubber thing was picking up a dookie roll, then i realized it was grey. That was even more shocking and I wanted to call social services on the photographer.

Man, what's up with the hat on the first baby? You put a hat on a baby, he's gonna yank it off within two minutes unless it's epoxied to his head.

Time has now revealed what the last item is-- it is a baby burqua.

I am quite afraid that this experience will have a life long effect on this child that we call The "Paper Sack" syndrome..Self esteem is so low that they are not asked to put a paper sack over their ugly face, they come automatically wearing one..

It's the clean baby version of the sorting hat from Hogwarts before it became older and wiser...
